Botox® in Houston, TX

Botox is an FDA-approved cosmetic injectable offered at TLC Med Spa in Houston to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Made by Allergan, Botox is composed of Botulinum toxin type A, a powerful neurotoxin that effectively relaxes the facial muscles responsible for the repetitive movements which lead to a furrowed brow and crows feet, and a prematurely aged or fatigued appearance.

Botox Treatments at TLC Med Spa

TLC Med Spa’s expertly trained team offers Botox cosmetic treatments to patients looking to reduce or eliminate facial wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Botulinum toxin products like Botox can be administered preventatively—to stop wrinkles from forming—and reactively to smooth out wanted wrinkles that have already formed.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injection that causes temporary muscle paralysis by blocking the nerves associated with muscle contraction. When used in a cosmetic procedure, the muscle weakness caused by Botox can reduce or eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and brow furrows in the treated area.

Benefits of Botox Injections:

  • In clinical trials, Botox has been proven to reduce wrinkles, deep and superficial lines, nasolabial folds, and other common signs of aging
  • An injection of Botox can lift the brows, without resorting to plastic surgery procedures like a brow lift
  • Botox can relax the upper lip to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile

What To Expect With Botox Treatment

Before Your Botox Treatment

Prior to the use of Botox, avoid blood thinners such as ibuprofen and aspirin. Plan to arrive at your appointment for Botox with a clean face without any makeup.

During Your Botox Treatment

At your appointment, your provider will clean the injection sites and can numb the treatment area with a topical anesthetic if necessary. Then, the Botox will be injected into the facial muscles using an ultra-fine needle. Botox injections take just a few minutes, and patients typically see results within 5 to 10 days.

After Your Botox Treatment

Patients can return to their normal routine immediately after Botox treatment, although it’s recommended to avoid a hot tub or sauna for at least 24 hours as well as any vigorous exercise.

FAQs About Botox

Does Botox have any side effects?

While considered safe when administered by an experienced healthcare provider, Botox can have side effects.3 These include headache, allergic reactions, neck pain, dry eye, trouble swallowing, and double vision. It’s important to tell your injector about any medical conditions you have and any medications you take, as using Botox with certain other medicines—including some over-the-counter (OTC), supplements, and vitamins—can cause side effects.

What’s the difference between Botox and other neurotoxins I’ve heard about?

There are several Botox alternatives, including Xeomin, Dysport, and Myobloc. While these drugs work in similar ways, Botox is the gold standard of wrinkle reducers and the effects of Botox are often stronger. That’s why TLC Med Spa is proud to offer Botox to our patients.

Can I get Botox if I’m pregnant?

No, pregnant individuals and those who are breastfeeding should not get Botox.4 You can find important safety information here.

Can Botox be used for non-cosmetic purposes?

Yes, injections of botulinum toxin can be used in the treatment of chronic migraine, hyperhidrosis or severe underarm sweating, some neurologic conditions, as well as muscle or nerve disorders such as cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, strabismus, and urinary incontinence or overactive bladder.5
